PHA IS A CHDO

Certified by HUD as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), PHA is eligible for certain federal and state funds reserved for CHDO’s. PHA has been involved in many different forms of affordable housing development in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area, including the preservation and production of apartment complexes dedicated to serving low-income households, and the revitalization of neighborhoods through scattered-site development. PHA’s commitment to affordability, accessibility and sustainability is manifest in every project. For more information on PHA’s project activities, please contact PHA’s Deputy Director, Peter Loach.

GREEN EARTH DEVELOPMENT GROUP

Green Earth Development Group is a for-profit company operated by PHA whose goal is to develop affordable mixed income projects in the region that are efficient and sustainable, and which promote healthy living and reflect the principles of smarth growth. PHA looks forward to Green Earth’s project debut in 2011 with SOHO. For more information on Green Earth Development Group, please contact PHA’s Project Director, Mark Watson.

Monticello Vista Apartments

Completed in December of 2009, the Monticello Vista Apartments project, located in the Belmont neighborhood of Charlottesville, included the renovation of an old shirt factory that had originally been converted to housing 15 years ago. The 50 apartment project, financed through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, primarily serves extremely low-income persons with mental or physical disabilities.

SOHO

SOHO, an exciting new mixed-use building at 300 Roosevelt Brown Boulevard in midtown Charlottesville, will be located only two blocks south of the University of Virginia Hospital. Scheduled for completion in 2012, SOHO will feature 3 floors of contemporary residential units designed for the urban professional over 2 floors of professional offices and complementary commercial / retail space.

Crozet Meadows Apartments

Completed in the summer of 2010, the Crozet Meadows Apartments are an elderly complex that was financed through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, along with over a dozen other sources of financing. The 66 apartment project, made up of fourplex and duplex buildings on a beautiful 27 acre site in Crozet, was built to EarthCraft green building standards, and to Universal Design standards of accessibility.
